How I Show Up in a New Role
I always enter a new business with an open mind. Sometimes the role requires a fresh perspective and real change. Other times, it’s about reinforcing what’s already working and being a strong culture carrier for a team that’s already thriving. Either way, I start by aligning my leaders early. It’s critical to set a clear foundation so the team is positioned for success from the beginning.
Timeframe: I focus the first few weeks on assessment and alignment, with a clear leadership strategy defined, deployed, and actively in motion within 6 weeks.
Listening Tour
I start every role with a structured listening tour across my leaders, their teams, and cross-functional partners to understand what’s working, what’s not, and where we’re losing momentum. At this level, it’s not just about listening. It’s about building trust and early buy-in, aligning leaders around shared themes, and challenging where time and energy are being spent. From there, I quickly identify gaps in pipeline, process, and execution and prioritize where we focus as a leadership team to drive the biggest performance impact.
In this podcast, I walk through how I use a listening tour to build trust, create early buy-in, and align leaders from the start.
Leadership Alignment Session
(Mission, Vision & Commitments)
After the listening tour, I bring my leadership team together for a focused working session to align on what we want to stand for, where we’re going, and what we’re committing to as a team. This is not a top-down exercise. It’s a collaborative session that brings forward the themes from the listening tour and turns them into clear priorities, shared ownership, and real accountability.
The outcome is a leadership team that is aligned, bought in, and moving in the same direction with clarity and purpose.
